Digital Menu Boards
Digital menu boards, also knowm as digital signage, allow a restaurant to present menus using flat panel monitors. As changes are made in RPOWER, the signage is updated.
RPOWER uses the menu structure created for Seamless (previously known as Seamless Web), an online ordering system. The Seamless interface allows maintenance of the digital signage through RPOWER's own Menu Setup.
Seamless is mentioned because it will be referenced in the menu setup process.
The menu panels and items are transmitted to RPOWER HQ, using RFX (RPOWER File Exchange), where they are formatted into html and transmitted back to the computer driving the signage. Style attributes of the html, including graphics, fonts, font sizes, colors, etc. are editable by restaurant management.
Create Menu Panels
Menu items will be grouped on the digital display by menu panel. The heading for the group is provided the
Name field of the menu panel, but may be overridden by a NAME= entry in the Description of the menu panel. A short description of the heading may also be supplied using Description. As an example, one might create an RPOWER menu panel called
Bagels, and touching the Description button, an entry of NAME=Joe's Bagels might be provided. In addition, on the line under NAME, a short description such as Hot from the Oven might be provided.
Note that it is not required to create panels for signage that are different from those already in use for normal point of sale operations, but doing so may make for a clearer and more manageable setup. If doing so, using a naming convention such as DS-Burgers (Digital Signage), DS-Sandwiches, etc. and using NAME= in Description to name the sections, will cause the signage panels to sort together in Menu Setup. Otherwise, it is recommended (but not required) that an entry such as DS be included in the
Add'l field of the menu panel name, so as to easily identify signage panels.
Menu items for digital signage follow the same convention as menu panels. The name of the item displayed is that of the menu item unless NAME= is used to provide a name in Description. A short description f the item is displayed if so provided in Description (on the following line(s) if using NAME=.
Create menu panels as needed and populate them with menu items. Be sure that
Publish is checked (default) for items to be sent to the signage.
- Note: Menu items will be displayed on the signage sequentially, reading from the menu panel left to right, row by row.
Create Menu Switch Panel
Create one master switch panel on which each of the previously created menu panels will reside.
Name the panel (Seamless) and use the
Add'l field to include the restaurant name.
Switches referencing each of the previously created menu panels
- Note: Menu panels will be displayed on the signage sequentially, reading from the switches left to right, row by row.
